As sizzling summer temperatures heat up Colorado at the beginning of August, outdoor sprinklers start soaking lawns and water bills start to go up. Many water providers including Golden, Westminster, Northglenn, and Arvada have partnered with the non-profit organization, The Center for ReSource Conservation(CRC) to help homeowners water the right amount for their landscapes and learn about their automatic sprinkler system through the Slow the Flow program. All at no cost to residents!

For over a decade Slow the Flow has been helping over 10,000 homes save a cumulative 285 million gallons of water. With a goal of providing practical, unbiased information about sprinkler systems and reduce wasteful watering, Slow the Flow has saved families thousands of dollars in lower water bills.

“Summer landscaping can quickly grow into a monster water bill if you’re not careful,” said Neal Lurie, president of the Center for ReSource Conservation. “The Slow the Flow program makes it easy for families to detect sprinkler system leaks and inefficiencies that could be wasting money. This is a common sense, no-cost program – we encourage families to participate, conserve, and save.”

Colorado’s growing population and changing climate are increasing demands on local water providers. Plus, droughts in California and other western states are leading to legal battles to protect water rights, further straining the system.

In partnership with Front Range water providers, CRC offers a highly effective, water-saving sprinkler consultation service at no cost to residents. Geared toward homeowners who have questions about their system, who want a customized watering schedule, and people who are just looking for ways to use fewer resources. This program is a great opportunity to find out if your home is using water as efficiently as possible.

In additional to Golden, appointments are offered in Arvada, Westminster, Broomfield and many more cities! To see if your community is participating in Slow the Flow, and to learn more and sign up for a no-cost water consultation visit: www.conservationcenter.org.

Lurie added, “Water is a limited resource. We can’t wait for reservoir supplies to dwindle to start conserving.”
